How to Make Nigerian Sausage Roll (10 Steps)

Roaming around momma's kitchen I stumbled on my favourite nigerian sausage roll, I couldn't believe myself. I thought this was only a company product. That we need to visit a fast food joint or snacks store to get it.

From researches and roaming around I discovered the complete recipe for nigerian sausage roll that keeps my taste watered all day long.

All my desire is to bring out the best of nigerian kitchen to the world to see and appreciate. Despite the rush every morning, you can save time and energy by making the nigerian sausage at home.

My last post was about meat pie and I really enjoyed elaborating the process. I want to let you know that it's my pleasure to share another African recipe once again.

What You Need in Making Nigerian Sausage Roll

Cooking Materials

• Grinder, electric or non-electric

• Bowl

• Baking Tray

• Kneading Table

• Kitchen knife

• Rolling pin

Dough Ingredients

• Butter or Margarine, 100 grams

• All purpose Flour, 250 grams

• Cool Water (provideas needed)

• Baking Powder, 1 teaspoonful

• Egg, 1 raw medium-sized - for coating the rolls

• ½ teaspoon of Salt

Ingredients for Sausage Rolls

• Black pepper, ½ teaspoon

• Stock powder (1 tablespoon full) or a stock cube preferribly

• Ground Nutmeg, ½ teaspoon

• Ground or minced sausage meat, 200 grams

Preparation Instructions for nigerian sausage roll

1. Grind the sausage meat neatly. Then add crumbled stock powder/cube nutmeg, black pepper and nutmeg to the ground meat.

Mix thoroughly using turning spoon or kitchen fork to make all spices to meet before setting aside.

2. In a bowl, Put salt and baking powder, together with the flour in a bowl and mix well. Add the complete 100 grams of melted butter or margarine and mix thoroughly by method of rubbing the margarine into the flour mixture. This is best made with gloved hand but other methods are also welcomed.

You can continue turning, mixing and dabbing until the particular mixture starts to look like garri or bread crumbs.

3. Pour a little amount of water streak by streak. That way you'll get the required texture, the smooth non-sticky dough to be exact.

4. Break the provided egg, whisk it and keep it close to go for the baking tray.

5. Grease or Line or grease your baking tray. Set aside also to make it wait.

6. Flour a clean table lightly and place the dough on top. Knead for at least 5 minutes.

7. Use a sharp kitchen knife to cut out a bit of the dough, then roll the dough flat (but not too flat) using a rolling pin.

8. Use your knife once again to cut out the dough, forming a rectangular shape.

This time you can place some of the 'finished' spiced sausage meat on the rectangular dough so that you can fold.

9. It's time to cut the rolled dough into two. Depending on the desired sausage length, it can be cut to more than two equal sizes.

Bring your lined/greased tray and place all the sausages. At this point, all process can be repeated 'til you exhaust/finish the dough remaining.

10. Heat your Oven to 170ยบ C/ 375 F for about 35 minutes baking period. You can also place the sausages on the ovun before heating at same range until until the sausage rolls become lightly brown in colour.

Serve Nigerian Sausage Rolls with yogurt or any chilled drink. The chilling effect makes everything enjoyable. We try to avoid hot drink for this recipe by choice of taste.
